Review Night on Union Station EarthCent Ambassador Book 11 eBook E M Foner Reviews
Another great story. A fitting sequel to a light hearted, tongue in cheek series. It's fun to see what happens when Earth's probationary status comes up for review...
I have purchased and read all the books in this series. They are short, easy, yet delightful reads. Each is is a self contained story that holds your interest without any evil villains and together they are a long arc story following an insecure young woman through her adulthood. Read them in order, starting with Date Night. I read them for free with Unlimited and then purchased them to support well written books and share with friends.
This series is funny and clever and this book is no exception. Nonetheless it is not one of the better books in the series. The main plot line is that humans are up for review on their probationary status. And as part of this review input will be obtained from the other aliens in the Stryx tunnel network.
Ambassador Kelly has discussions with each alien Ambassador trying to determine what they don't like about humans. It turns out that the aliens feel sorry for humans for a reason they don't reveal to Kelly.
What a decent story. This isn't just entertainment. It teaches us about fundamental decency and what it mean to be humane, not just human. Beautifully crafted and a gem to read by a very talented and very decent writer, with a keen with and a sense of what it means to be human. I hope this man has children. Children deserve this kind of father.
Sounds like the beginning of a good joke, right?
This was another excellent episode in the EarthCent series. I was VERY happy to see the Farling doctor get an expanded role in this book. I particularly enjoy the way that Mr. Foner introduces new characters and new species to the cast of regulars; easily incorporating them into the existing storyline.
As a result, there is never a dull moment and my interest remains peaked throughout. The good-natured humor I have come to expect never lets me down and I am no longer surprised by the funny looks I get from family members whenever I half laugh out loud before catching myself.
Thank you again for another wonderful contribution. Now . . . It's on to "Family Night."
Review Night is another excellent story in the Union Station series. It was lovely to spend some more quality time with the folks I’ve come to know and love in the first ten books. New and colorful characters are introduced, but not at a pace that overwhelms. And one friend from the past reappears and looks set to become part of the extended McAllister clan. Like every book in this series, it’s a story that’s not thrilling, mysterious, or scary, but has a tight, interesting plot that makes sense, great characters, and is just flat out fun to read – so much fun that the books always feel too short. It’s a happy thing that there are now eleven of them.
This is the eleventh book in the EarthCent series. If you haven't read the series the premise is that Earth/humanity was rescued by an alien race (The Stryx) when the state of the economy threatened to wipe humanity out. The Styx run a number of space stations connected by a worm-hole network and numerous alien races maintain a diplomatic presence on the Stryx stations. Since humans were adopted by the Stryx they need to undergo periodic reviews to see if they can become an independent species. Clear? Good. This is the story of humnaity's first species review.
Kelly McAllister was the initial central character in the first EarthCent book (Date Night on Union Station). In the subsequent books she has been gradually fading way a as a central character as her children and other aliens have become more significant in the story-lines. That's a shame as Kelly and her husband Joe were great, fun, interesting characters. In review Night Kelly has a much larger role as she has to go around the aline races and see what they have to say about humanity.
This is a bitter-sweet comedy. The author avoids a lot of the potential pathos and keeps the story moving. None of these books have been high art. They are much more fun and readable than that. COnceptually this is one of the more complex ones but the sense of humor and depth of character shines though again. These aren't really standalone books (IMO) but are a great binge read. Highly recommended.
